Documentary Stars from All Over the World Are Coming to East Doc Platform

The fifth edition of the biggest documentary event in the region East Doc Platform (EDP) organized by the Institute of Documentary Film begins on Monday, March 7. More than 400 guests will attend it within the course of one week, whether they are emerging or experienced filmmakers, representatives of major film festivals or key world-renowned personalities of the documentary filmmaking, such as the famous director and producer Erik Gandini. Acclaimed producer Arnaud Colinart will come to Prague to introduce the game mechanisms and VR technologies that can mediate the experience of blindness. Czech documentarists will also introduce their upcoming films. One of them will be for example Jan Látal, who likes to portray the controversial figures of Czech political scene from an unusual point of view. In this case it will be Miloš Zeman in the documentary project Sick President.

The real stars of documentary industry accepted the invitation to come to EAST DOC PLATFORM 2016 and share their experience via the various lectures, case studies, presentations and master classes within the Open programme. Two experienced professionals, the Swedish documentarist Fredrik Gertten and acclaimed British producer and director Sarah Mosses will cover social campaigns. Within the KineDok konference a crowdfunding specialist Wolfgang Gumpelmaier will show alternative way of gaining support. The potential of transmedia narration will be covered by the Irish writer and script writer nominated for Emmy, Jasmina Kallay. Frédéric Dubois will talk about how to make a successful web documentary, and how to measure its impact. The invitation to Prague was also accepted by an Oscar-nominated producer Mike Lerner or an acclaimed documentary film editor and writer Maya Hawke, who had worked on several films by Werner Herzog and Errol Morris. Among the guests there is also the Romanian filmmaker Anca Damian, who combines the animation and documentary techniques in her work, and whose docu-drama The Magic Mountain was awarded at Karlovy Vary IFF 2015. The lectures by the leading expert on marketing and distribution Peter Jäger or renowned Finnish commissioning editor Iikka Vehkalahti also promise an interesting experience. National Film Board of Canada will be represented by Marie-Pier Gauhtier. The experienced producer, distributor and specialist in film marketing Vincent Lucassen will introduce new trends in alternative and digital distribution. An expert on interactive projects, Alexandre Brachet, will present a documentary web series Do Not Track, which explores the ways in which everything that we do publish online is stored and used. He will also introduce the project Generation What? with the overwhelming amount of statistics and significant social impact, which will be launched in the Czech Republic this year.
