Ex Oriente Film workshop, founded in 2003 by the Institute of Documentary Film and organized every year since to support directors and producers primarily from Eastern and Central Europe, who can develop their documentary projects within its three sessions under the professional guidance and year-round online consultations of international experts, has prepared a new venue and invited new acclaimed tutors for its 2016/2017 edition.
The first of its three week-long sessions will newly take place at the beautiful southern seaside town of Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, this time in cooperation with a local partner, Hulahop, a production company and organizer of Animafest, located in Zagreb.
The twelve documentary projects selected to take part in Ex Oriente Film 2016 (we will announce their names here at the end of May) will meet with tutors and leading international experts on June 27th, 2016, to spend the next six days analyzing the content, background, main characters and storytelling options of their projects and place them within an international context under the motto “Find your Originality".
The guests tutors who already confirmed their presence and guidance for the session in Split are Emma Davie, Scottish documentary filmmaker and Programme Director of Film & TV at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh; Ivo Trajkov, the Head of FAMU Editing Department and experienced director, editor and script doctor; and renowned director Želimir Žilnik, known for his critique of totalitarian systems and his socially engaging style. Joining us once again as one of the Workshop Lead Tutors will be Iikka Vehkalahti, former Commissioning Editor for YLE and currently the Executive Producer of Rough Cut Service and Dare To Dream Asia. The traditional Lead tutors, Mikael Opstrup (Head of Studies at EDN), Filip Remunda (director and producer, Hypermarket Film), and Ivana Pauerová Milošević (director; script editor) will also be ready to share their experience. More tutors to be confirmed soon.
Do you want to meet these professionals in person and have them consult your project? There is still a chance to apply and follow the footsteps of the previous successful Ex Oriente Film alumni such as Brothers, The Domino Effect, Blind Loves, At the Edge of Russia, Rabbit a la Berlin, Village Without Women, Bakhmaro, etc. Apply HERE before May 4th, 2016!
