The Visitors, directed by Veronika Lišková and produced by Kristýna Michálek Květová, got the Special Mention in the Czech Joy competition at Ji.hlava IDFF. The Visitors is an international co-production of Czech Republic, Norway and Slovakia (Cinémotif Films, Ten Thousand Images, Peter Kerekes & Czech TV). The film had the world premiere at Locarno 2022 (Semaine de la critique), other screenings include: Chicago IFF, KVIFF, CinEast, Cork IFF, Ji.hlava IDFF.
We hope that this Creative Dialogue will be an inspiring example for other filmmakers who are already in the process of production and think about platforms/markets where to pitch final stages of their projects. We will cover the whole creative process, including challenges during production (cold weather, Covid-19 pandemic, closed community), preparations for pitching at East Doc Forum, rough-cut consultations, different ways of cooperation including international co-production. We will also talk about expectations for distribution and sales (world sales Taskovski Films).
About the film
A young anthropologist, Zdenka moves with her family to Svalbard, Norway, to study how life is changing in polar regions. After falling in love with her new home, she discovers that more than icebergs and permafrost are vanishing in the Arctic. She has to work out to what extent she can get involved in the local community that she only originally intended to observe.
The IDF Industry Sessions called Creative Dialogue present directors and producers of exceptional documentary projects and tutors who met during industry events that the Institute of Documentary Film organizes. Tutors are selected by the director-producer team and they are film professionals who had the greatest influence on the project.
