This year’s nominations for the most prestigious European awards by the European Film Academy include two IDF projects: We Will Not Fade Away by Alisa Kovalenko and Motherland by Hanna Badziaka and Alexander Mihalkovich. The awards ceremony will take place on the 9th of December 2023 in Berlin. We are keeping our fingers crossed until then.

We Will Not Fade Away is a tender and emotional multi-portrait of five Ukrainian teenagers trapped in the war zone in Donbas who dream of freedom and discovering the world outside. The project was pitched at the East Doc Platform in 2021 and received our Silver Eye Award for best finished film in 2023.

Motherland, an Ex Oriente Film 2019 project, pitched at East Doc Platform 2020, is a captivating dive into the decades-old 'tradition' of violent bullying, torture and murder as a means of control over Belarusian military conscripts.

Another two projects among the nominated were directed and produced by the Institute of Documentary Film Alumni. A bittersweet intimate memoir of two women and their friendship Between Revolutions was produced by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, who was involved in many IDF activities. Her latest series is currently a part of the Ex Oriente programme. The director Maciek Hamela, who participated in the East Doc Interactive and East Doc Platform, is this year's nominee for his documentary In The Rearview.
