FEINKOŠT 2024, a series of the most remarkable Czech and German documentary films of the last year, is here! Look forward to six striking shorts that deal with important issues of the contemporary world in an original way without losing their audience-friendliness. We cordially invite you to the premiere on 10 October at 7 PM at the Přítomnost cinema. After the screenings you can look forward to a discussion with the filmmakers, moderated by Anna Herza Tydlitátová. Admission is free!
The films will be screened in the original version with Czech subtitles. Discussion will be in English.
The programme consists of the following films:
IN BETWEEN (dir. Lý Bao Long, CZ, 2023, 6 min)
Two languages, two cultures and a difficult search for one’s own identity. Cinematically complex, this is a visually and rhythmically strong reflection on the experiences of people who are stuck in limbo, in the precarious space between two cultures.
BAIGAL NUUR (dir. Alisi Telengut, DE/KAN, 2023, 9 min)
The formation of Lake Baikal in Siberia is re-imagined with hand-made animation, featuring the voice of a Buryat woman who can still recall some words in her endangered Buryat-Mongolian language.
GETTY ABORTIONS (dir. Franzis Kabisch, DE, 2023, 22 min)
What do abortions look like? What kind of images shape our view of them? And where do these images come from? The desktop video essay GETTY ABORTIONS examines how German and Austrian media illustrate the topic of abortion, browsing through stock-photo databases, teen magazines, and personal documents of a real abortion experience.
OF FENCES AND MEN (dir. Petr Michal, CZ, 2023, 12 min) A garden as an escape into personal space, where one meets nature. But what to do when even the city creeps in? A quiet insight into the life of the gardeners, colony and their sense of threat. Poetic images and sounds of the life of the colony alternate with scenes of neglected gardens, old fences and endless efforts to preserve them.
BODY-SOUL-PATIENT (dir. Jindřich Andrš, CZ, 2023, 23 min
The study of medicine in the Czech Republic is usually based on memorising a huge amount of information. However, the Second Faculty of Medicine at Charles University is introducing new teaching methods based on a more practical approach to education. This observational film follows young students during non-traditional forms of teaching.
SCHLAFENDE HUNDE (dir. Jenia Bayat Mokhtari, Amelie Befeldt, Samuli Salonen, Sarah Veith, DE, 2023, 11 min)
The dog meadow is a meeting place for four-legged friends and their owners, who sometimes can't smell each other just as much as their furry companions. People of different origins and convictions face each other. But this is not the right place for discussions. Or maybe it is?
