The Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival starts today, and we will be there. We bring a programme for industry professionals, a meeting of KineDok partners and 13 films that went through our activities.

Study on the State of Czech Documentary Film

The Czech Audiovisual Producers’ Association (APA), in cooperation with us, will present the Study on the State of Czech Documentary Film, which examines the opportunities and challenges facing documentary filmmaking prior to the transformation of the Czech Film Fund into the Czech Audiovisual Fund. Documentary filmmaking has its own specific requirements and calls for a distinct creative and economic approach. The division of its support into two pillars has created new opportunities for Czech producers, but also new challenges. The study also opens up a broader discussion about the position and potential of documentary film within the Czech audiovisual industry. The presentation will also introduce a vision for the future development of Czech documentary filmmaking and its needs, formulated by producers from APA’s documentary section. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with representatives of television broadcasters and the Director of the Czech Audiovisual Fund. The debate will focus on the financing, development and production of documentary projects, the structure of public support, relations between producers and broadcasters, and the place of documentary filmmaking within broadcasters’ content strategies.

The event takes place on Tuesday, 27 October, as part of the block CZECH DOCUMENTARY IN CHANGING TIMES: WORKING CONDITIONS, FINANCING AND THE FUTURE, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM at the Industry Hub, Small Stage of the Horácké Theatre (Komenského 24).
