The documentary film Rakijada by Ilić Nikola was selected to the International Short Film Competition SHORT RIGA 2017 at Riga International Film Festival. The screenings will take place from September, 13 - 16th, 2017 in Latvia.
The film Rakijada takes place in Pranjani – a small village in central Serbia. Locals earn their living abroad or as farmers. Many count themselves among the Chetniks, Serbian patriots. So far, so normal. But every May, the Rakijada takes place - a competition that is all about who can drink the most, balance on wooden poles and brew the best Rakija, plum brandy. The red thread of the competition allows the examination of the Serbian soul from a new point of view, while never losing sight of the typical humour of the Balkans.
All the films will be judged by an international jury consisting of professionals in the field of short film: Reinhard Wolf (Oberhausen International Short Film Festival), Christian Stark (Winterthur International Short Film Festival), Dan Angelescu (Bucharest Experimental Film Festival), Joanna Rytel (Director, Sweden) and Antra Gaile (Producer, Latvia). The jury will decide on Silver pin "Grass snake" for the best short film and a special mention among approximately 34 titles.
