March 3 – 9, 2018, the Institute of Documentary Film hosts the 7th East Doc Platform, the largest event for the co-production, funding and distribution of documentary projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The awards for the best documentary projects are worth a total of EUR 35,000. Filmmakers and producers could submit their projects in development/early production to the East Doc Forum; projects in late production/post-production to the East Doc Market, and cross-media and interactive projects to the East Doc Interactive. Czech filmmakers will present their projects at the public presentation Czech Docs... Coming Soon, while short films will participate in the new event IF/Then Short Pitch.

An international jury will recognize the best project in the development and production stage with the East Doc Platform Award and EUR 7,500 for further project development.

Documentary filmmaking has long been supported by Czech Television, the general media partner of the East Doc Platform. For the first time, a selected project will receive the Czech TV Co-production Award along with CZK 150,000. “It’s been exciting working with IDF for three years now. Czech TV has supported several promising international documentaries that were presented at other prestigious events, such as Nordisk Panorama in Malmö. The Czech TV Co-production Award will for the first time come with a prize of CZK 150,000, which will allow international producers a greater amount of flexibility. I’m very happy that Czech TV has partnered with the EDP to provide support for international projects on current issues,” says Jan Maxa, Director of Content, Czech TV.

HBO Europe is a major documentary co-producer in the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe. All projects selected for the 2018 East Doc Platform will compete for the HBO Europe Award and EUR 2,000 for project development. HBO is granting this award while not requiring any rights in return. “We’re glad that the HBO Europe Award allows us to support quality documentaries in Central and Eastern Europe and open doors for talented and ambitious filmmakers at the most crucial production stage – at the very beginning,” says Hanka Kastelicová, VP and Executive Producer, Documentaries, HBO Europe.

Selected East Doc Market projects have a chance of winning the Current Time TV Award with pre-buy option (non-exclusive) for EUR 3,500.

Throughout the year, the East Doc Platform works with other key European festivals. Thanks to our partnerships, one project is annually selected for IDFA Forum in Amsterdam, Speed Meetings at Docs Barcelona, DOK Leipzig Co-Pro Meetings, DOK Preview and Sheffield Doc/Fest.
