Synopsis
How does Vilnius look like through the eyes of the foreigner? What is so surprising, delighting or shocking about the capital? Three partners of the project "Docres VNO" tried to answer these questions and made a documentary film "Vilnius - the City I Have Never Known". Three film-makers from Latvia, Estonia and Belgium settled in Vilnius and over several months tried to "domesticate" the capital of Lithuania and familiarize with it. Artists were editing this material in a workshop called "Media LAB" which was established specially for the purposes of this project. Such professional workshop is unique not only in Baltic region, but in Eastern Europe as well. The purpose of "Media LAB" is to create a chain of digital film development, production and distribution.
DOCRES VNO is a long term program under the umbrella of "Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009", implemented in partnership with an independent production company ERA FILM. It is intended to be used by emerging professional filmmakers. This program is made up of two projects: Artists Residency and MEDIALAB. DOCRES VNO is open to all young professional artists world-wide. The filmmakers are welcome to come to Vilnius and enjoy the entire film making process: from project development to post production.
DOCRES VNO is the only artist residency program in the Baltic Region as well as the entire Eastern Europe for film professionals. Artists from different countries live and work together while learning from each other, sharing experiences and creating social networking.
Films by participants of DOCRES VNO 2009:
"What's Next?", by Dzintars Dreibergs (Latvia). The film pictures the city from a perspective of its "guardian angels". It reveals comical and dangerous moments through the sincere and non official story caught by foreigner.
"In Dialogue", by Kristin Raup (Estonia). Two different individuals in everyday work situations show how their lives are shaped by the same city and time frame.
"Eternal Girl", by Bram Crols (Belgium). Inga, a character in a well known Lithuanian film "Grazuole" (The Beauty), which dates from 1969, is brought back by the filmmaker. After four decades of "Grazuole", a 10 year old girl at that time, this film portrays the exploration of the concepts of beauty through the role of Inga.
