Endless Ride

Nekonečný výjezd

Directing: Johan Kolínský

Synopsis

“Everyone wants to leave a mark. On a wheelchair, you leave two.”

Endless Ride follows two inseparable friends, Jirka and Petr, who have no intention of letting their disabilities define their lives. Their diagnoses may offer little reason for optimism, but self-pity is simply not their style. Instead, they face everyday life with determination, irreverence and a generous dose of black humour.

Both work for a marketing company, which allows them to live independently with the support of personal assistants. They spend their free time playing pub quizzes, performing with a band and supporting Slavia Prague at football matches. Their shared sense of humour eventually inspired them to launch a social media channel where they make fun of life in a wheelchair and disability itself. Their videos have attracted more than 235,000 followers and turned them into unlikely internet stars.

But their ambitions reach beyond social media. Petr wants to use their popularity to break down barriers between people with disabilities and the wider public. He reaches out to celebrities and influencers, drawing attention to issues that are often ignored. Jirka dreams of becoming a professional football commentator. He is obsessed with a game he has never been able to play and knows almost everything there is to know about it. At the same time, his life is about to change in a much more personal way: he and his wife are expecting their first child.

Endless Ride is a documentary black comedy about friendship, ambition and two men determined to live on their own terms. Whether they achieve their dreams is ultimately beside the point. What matters is enjoying the ride while it lasts.
