Synopsis
The first public screening in Sofia happened in 1896 - a year after the one in Grand Café in Paris. Since then, the number of movie theatres in the capital grew to forty at some point. Their buildings became witnesses of bombings, earthquakes, fires, and changes of all kinds. Most of them are now abandoned. There are only three old movie theatres left in the capital. However, all of them still hold the precious memories of many lives and fates. This movie tells their untold stories.
In addition to the documentary film, Just Like the Movies includes a transmedia content, available through its dedicated website: www.just-likethemovies.com. It presents an interactive map of the old movie theatres in Sofia, and a gallery of videos, audio-recordings, and written letters.
