Synopsis
Zhibek and her colleagues from the Kyrgyz Space Program (KSP) are traveling the country to recruit members, to build and launch the first Kyrgyz satellite. Through this incredible challenge, they aim to change the mentalities and open a discussion about the status of women in Kyrgyzstan. They have named the satellite "Burulaï" after a young woman who died, victim of Ala Kashuu, a forced marriage involving abduction and rape.
The KSP women want to break down traditional stereotypes, offer new opportunities, and change the vision on women and their role in Kyrgyz society. As they travel through Kyrgyzstan, the KSP women share their own stories of domestic violence, and the challenges faced to escape violence.
Facing financial struggles to finance the satellite's construction and launching, the KSP team continues to develop connections with foundations and collaborate with space agencies. They fight to secure enough funding and again, they go on the road for another round in Kyrgyzstan, recruiting more women. They want to make sure that, if financed, "Burulaï-1", the first Kyrgyz satellite, will be made by women, and women only.
