Synopsis
Shin Dong-Huyk was born in 1983 as a political prisoner in an North Korean reeducation camp. He was a child of two prisoners who have been married by order of the wardens. He spent his entire childhood and youth in camp 14. Forced labor since he was six years old, hunger, beatings and torture. He knew nothing of the world outside the barbed-wire fences. He thinks everybody is living that way. At the age of 23, with the help of an older prisoner, he escaped. He went through North Korea and China to South Korea, encountering a world completely strange to him there. The film relates his incredible story, as well as those of his fellow inmates and prison guards. We portray Shin’s dramatic life, with CGI animation also helping to bring Shin’s memories to life.
