Synopsis
Anna Grodzka is currently the only transgender person in the world serving as member of government. She was recently labeled the most recognisable Polish politician since Lech Walesa. Our camera follows Anna as she confronts conservative voices both in the parliament and in the streets. We see her marching in the streets of Warsaw in support of pluralism and diversity and against nationalism and xenophobia. When the most extreme voices come to play, we witness Anna protesting actual neo-Nazi groups. The latter tend to appear wherever they can attack representatives of the LGBTQ movement and present the most notorious threat to equality activists in Poland. We also see Anna trying to reconcile her private life with the very intense life of a political activist and a one-of-a-kind celebrity. Strongly criticised by Polish Christian extremists, Anna is celebrated by the liberal media and intellectual circles. The film provides background narratives necessary to build a larger context for the poignant changes happening in contemporary Poland and for Anna’s particular story. Our camera goes behind the scenes, where we meet Anna’s 30 year-old son, who has supported her all along, but is obviously a little bewildered by the sudden popularity of his father. Anna Grodzka is considered one of the central figures in the fight for liberal changes in Poland and represents a new hope for diversity in a country with the reputation of being one of the most Catholic and homogenous European states. She is an inspiration for all minorities and underrepresented voices.
