Theatre of Truth and Celebrations

“Liberty Theatre” was founded in 2001 in Tbilisi, Georgia. At that time, Georgia was ruled by semi-authoritarian government and the theatre was the rare place, where one could hear the critic of the regime. Two years later, The Rose Revolution overthrew the government. Liberty Theatre was headquarter of then opposition and the contribution was so high that founder Avtandil Varsimashvili was offered to stage new president’s inauguration. Liberty Theatre continued to be more and more successful and also critic towards the new government, which after two terms ended up by losing elections. After 16 years of being Georgia’s most successful artistic venue, my father’s theatre was demolished to be integrated in the new shopping mall. The film is about how art can influence social life.
