Grandson

Hans Rainer Hoess (52) is the grandson of SS commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp Rudolf Franz Ferdinand Hoess, while Eva Mozes Kor (86) is a Holocaust survivor who symbolically adopted him as her grandson. Rainer Hoess broke up the relations with his family and left home at the age of 15, when he found out that his grandfather Rudolf Hoess has been responsible for the industrial extermination of the 2.5 million Jews in WWII. At the age of 39, after he had a stroke, Rainer realized that he has to deal with his dark heritage and face the horrors of the Holocaust. Eva Mozes Kor said about Rainer: “The fact that he is the grandson of Rudolf Hoess, it says to me the following: ‘That is an ultimate revenge!’ - Rudolf Hoess does not enjoy his grandson, but I do!’”.
