The Portraitist

On September 31, 1940, Wilhelm Brasse, a pre-war portrait photographer, went to Auschwitz. On the orders of the SS, he was responsible for secret photographic documentation in the reconnaissance commando of the political unit. A day before the camp's evacuation, risking his life, he saved most of his photographs documenting Nazi crimes in Auschwitz.
