Synopsis

Larger than Life is a film about one of Europe’s best young theatre directors, now known throughout Europe and Russia - Latvian-born Alvis Hermanis, and his distinctive directing method, which is marked by renunciation of classic dramatic material and search for points of contact between theatre, documentary art, and life stories in order to transform a particular life story into theatre.
Alvis Hermanis sends his actors on expeditions to meet and speak with different men and women, in various countries, cities, countryside in order to form a collective work—a play—from their stories. When perfected by the actors, this “theatre of observed reality” becomes fiction. The film follows the development and production of three performances (plays) by Alvis Hermanis in Latvia and in Germany
