Children of Anton Kalina

Děti Antonína Kaliny

Directing: Pavel Dražan

Synopsis

In 2012 Anton Kalina received the title “Righteous Among the Nations” in Israel and last year he was posthumously decorated by the Czech President. Anton Kalina spent the war mainly in the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he saved more than thousand imprisoned Jewish children and can be compared to famous rescuers of the World War II: Oskar Schindler, and Sir Nicholas Winton. But unlike the two famous men Anton Kalina has not received any recognition yet. He died in Prague at the age of 88 years. In this documentary, we will attempt to reconstruct Kalina’s story and also portrait historians and direct participants of the events – Kalina children - who owe their lives to Anton Kalina. Filming will take place in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Israel. We will use archival film material from Germany and the United States. Key moments of the story will be staged.
