Synopsis
In the Czech history, October 17 is largely connected to the year 1989 while the events of 1939 tend to slip from our attention. It was then, however, when the event "Sonderaktion Prag vom 17 November 1939" took place, Czech universities were shut down and more than 1200 students were dragged to a concentration camp. The film portrays memories of 6 university students who were engaged in these sad events.
It was not important whether Ladislav Bém, Karel Hýbek, Vojmír Srdečný and Jan Šabršula took part in the anti-nazi demonstrations or attended Jan Opletal´s funeral in Prague. It did not matter whether Jiří Zapletal was in Brno at the time of those events. All of them were eventually sent to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Lubor Zinka managed to flee to England and in 1941, as a member of Czechoslovak foreign forces, personally supported the announcement of October 17 as the International students´day. The fate of this commemorative date remained complicated throughout 20th century.
