Synopsis
‘Dienstage’ is a documentary portrait of Edith Schlemmer, who has been a film archivist at the Austrian Film Museum for five decades.
Film reels are being rewound, splices renewed, prints are piling up. In accompanying Edith Schlemmer as she continues to work once a week on every Tuesday after her pension, ‘Dienstage’ shows an exceptional woman and her passion for her work, and gives an insight into a cinematic institution from a “behind the screen” perspective. Edith Schlemmer embodies the pragmatic reality of a film archivist beyond any nostalgic idealization of an analogue era. Her mission is to face the eternal chaos with her bare hands.
