The Arts Council of Finland consists of national councils for architecture, cinema, dance, design, literature, music, photography, theatre and visual arts. It is funded by the Ministry of Education and allocates funds and grants both to projects and individual artists. In the field of cinema, the Council contributes to artist-in-residence programmes, film festivals, multidisciplinary and media art projects, film productions, regional film centres, etc. Every year, the Arts Council gives out 11 state prizes, awarding achievement in different fields of art.
