Locarno International Film Festival

Locarno is a competitive film festival. It aims to promote filmmaking of artistic merit, to provide a showcase for major new films of the year from around the world, and to show new perspectives of filmmaking expression, concentrating particularly on new filmmakers. The program includes International Competition, Piazza Grande for spectacular but innovative films, Filmmakers of the Present for first and second features, Leopards of Tomorrow for film debuts under 40 minutes, and a few special sections and retrospectives.
