Elm Media

Elm Media was founded in 2005 with the aim of drawing society’s attention to environmental and social issues through documentaries and photography projects. The company creates social documentaries reflecting different processes in the society, and environmental films whose main emphasis is on ecological issues. Elm Media is the only production company in Latvia to constantly take up social documentaries as a part of its editorial line. During the last decade Elm Media produced several documentary films on socially hot topics - “homo@lv” (about fight of LGBT and their opponents over organisation of Riga Pride parades), “They Were the First” (about the first Somali refugees in Latvia) and “Inga Can Hear” (a coming-of-age story of a girl who is the only hearing member of a deaf family). “homo@lv” was the first documentary from Latvia that was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, while “Inga Can Hear” had its international premiere in Hot Docs 2019.
