Ligia Ciornei was born in Suceava, a city in Romania, near the border with Ukraine, which was and is a source of inspiration for her films. She studied Film Directing and Film Production at the National University of Theater and Cinematography "I.L Caragiale", Bucharest. She is currently a Ph.D. student at the same university. She stood out internationally with the short films "Vintage" and "Somewhere in Moldova". Additionally, she made her theater debut with the show "Grounded" by George Brant, which in turn was appreciated by critics and theater selectors. "Citadela" is a performative installation about the first female pilots in Romania and managed to define the young director as an interdisciplinary artist. “Clouds of Chernobyl” is her feature film debut.
