Uladzimir Kolas was born in 1951 in Minsk. After having graduated Minsk institute of foreign languages (1973), he worked as a teacher of English at a village school in Vitsebsk oblast. In 1977- 1980 studied at Higher Courses of Script Writers and Film Directors of Goskino URSS in Moscow. In 1982 the film of Uladzimir Kolas “Crimson Grass” won the Price for the best feature film début at the Festival of Young Cinematographers in Moscow. In 1980 – 1990 Uladzimir Kolas worked as film director in Belarusfilm studio in Minsk. In 2007 Uladzimir Kolas started his collaboration with Belsat TV channel. His documentary “Ada Gallery” (2007) has been selected for about 20 international film festivals and won “Prix Europa” in Berlin, Grand Prix of International Film Festival “Escales Documentaires” in La Rochelle, prix “Golden Drum” of International TV festival in Khanty-Mansijsk (Russia) and a number of other awards. Uladzimir Kolas is also the chairman of Belsat TV channel Public Board, and chairman of the Rada of Belarusian Intelligentsia.
