Karel Strachota

festival representative, organization representative, director

Karel Strachota (*1962) works for the Czech non-profit organisation People in Need. Since 2001, he has been a member of the team that organises the One World Human Rights International Documentary Film Festival. He regularly participates in the selection of films for the festival programme and he was executive director of the festival from 2002 to 2004. In 2001, he set up the One World in Schools project, which he has been running ever since. One event organised as part of One World in Schools is the Stories of Injustice project, which every November arranges school screenings of films about Communist Czechoslovakia. Individual film projections are followed by debates with guests, who are usually former political prisoners and people who became victims of communist judicial tyranny.
