Susanne Brandstätter is a documentary filmmaker based in Vienna, Austria. She grew up in Los Angeles. Moved to Austria in 1975. Worked as a writer/director for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) from 1983 to 2002. In 2002 she became an independent filmmaker and producer. Her work often explores the consequences of power in social and political contexts. Her first independent documentary „Checkmate – Strategy of a Revolution“ was in competition at IDFA, where it had its world premiere. Her films frequently deal with the tensions within society as in her film on Kosovo “Rule of Law” (2006 - Vienna Film Prize/Viennale), her film about the repercussions of the Khmer Rouge regime “The Future’s Past” (2012), or her last feature on Trump voters "This Land Is My Land".
