After working as a dancer/performer with several choreographers/directors RÉKA SZABÓ has been building The Symptoms, one of the most significant contemporary dance-theatre company in Hungary since 2002. The company treat everyday problems that preoccupy all of us, addressing these themes in a deeply personal tone. All of this is wrapped in a vision that is grotesque, self-ironic and poetic at the same time. This attitude can be traced back in her experimental dance films "Shadow Movie – cartoon with living characters" and "Mourning" as well, that were screened at several festivals (e.g. Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, RE-SEARCH Summer Festival 2016, Tel-Aviv). She received Best Experimental Film awards at the Hungarian Film Week in 2011 for "Shadow movie".
