Born in city of Vladimir, lived in a far north of Russia. Studied as a philologist, graduated from St. Petersburg Institute of Cinema and Television with a specialization “Director of TV programs”. When working on different TV channels in Russia (while studying) realized that TV programs is not exactly his cup of tea, started to direct documentaries. Ilya have studied at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF (HFF) in 2012. Directed several short documentaries and commercials. Works also as DOP.
