Claudio Pazienza was born in Roccascalegna, Italy in 1962 and his family moved to Belgium a year later. He attended an Italian/Flemish school before taking his baccalaureate at the European School of Mol. In 1985, he obtained a diploma in European ethnology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He learned about cinema through indefatigable trips to the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique and began shooting short films in Super 8 and later 16 mm. In 1991, the La Sept documentary unit funded his first documentary project (Sottovoce, 1993). He then devised several theme nights for the French-German TV network ARTE. In November 2003, the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information at the Centre Pompidou in Paris dedicated a retrospective to him. From time to time, Pazienza lectures at film schools (Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Lussas, etc.) while living in Brussels.
