Jana Cernik was born in Bratislava/ Slovak Republic and grew up in Germany. After graduating in cultural science she worked in the cultural field as a project manager and as a film journalist in Germany and the Czech Republic. She has worked many years for the Cinemathek in Hamburg and has been a regular program coordinator of the Days of European Film in Prague where she organised round table discussions focussing on the European film Industry. In 2002 she started setting up in September 2002 and subsequent running of the Czech Film Center which is in charge of the promotion of Czech film and film industry abroad.
