Born in Kastoria in the north of Greece, Babis studied at the Stavrakos Film School and quickly established himself as one of the most successful directors for commercials in Greece.
His short film “The Last Fakir” was awarded best newcomer at Drama short film festival in Greece.
His debut feature L (2012) premiered in Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, followed by Rotterdam FF and many many others. It was awarded the Grand Prix at the Molodist FF, Kiev, Ukraine, in 2012. Pity (2018), his second feature also premiered in Competition at Sundance and Rotterdam FF. The film has received various awards and was crowned Best Film at the Hellenic Film Academy Awards in 2019.
His third feature film “Birds or (How to Be One)”, produced for the Onassis Foundation and premiered at Rotterdam
