Kalina Nikolova was born in 1999 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies in France. After returning to Bulgaria in 2021, she began working professionally in documentary filmmaking. Her debut short documentary, Natural Film (2026), is a subtle portrait of Bulgarian writer and Booker Prize laureate Georgi Gospodinov. In 2024, she was an artist-in-residence at the Maison des Écritures, where she developed the script for the three-part documentary series Grandpa Was a Genius, dedicated to a four-generation musical dynasty, probably one of the most significant musical families in Europe. She also runs the cinema column "Kinoscope", where she publishes movie reviews.
