Magda Španihelová is a doctoral student at Film Studies Department, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. She completed her MA in 2009 with the thesis From Genetic Memory to Electronic Circuit: Representation of Body and Corporeality in Screen Dance Films which was later published as Screen Dance: Body for Camera (2010). From 2011 to 2012 she worked at the Prague-based Institute of Documentary Film as a Czech Docs coordinator. Her PhD research is focused on representations of the body, sports and physical culture in Czech cinema and visual culture in the 1920s and 30s within the context of formation (and popularization) of Czech national identity.
