Lucia Kasova is an independent European documentary director. She focuses on questions of freedom, equality and on strong character driven stories. Her feature-length debut The Sailor (2021) is a portrait of Paul Johnson, who sailed the world all his life and in film he reflects on his life and contemplates on his death. It premiered at HotDocs, Toronto and won the Grand Prix as best feature documentary at Academy Award-qualifying Flickers’ Rhode Island lFF and traveled to many other film festivals. Lucia’s other short Orchestra From the Land of Silence (2020) portrays Afghanistan's all female orchestra and shows what it means for these young girls to study music in Kabul. The film was touring across schools of Germany and Slovakia and has been to over 40 festivals worldwide.
