Loretta is a Dutch-Puerto Rican Emmy nominated investigative journalist and filmmaker focusing on underreported stories behind today’s headlines. Her debut feature documentary Behind the Blood, a film about surviving gang and police violence in her birth country Honduras, premiered at IDFA 2019 and won the award for best International Documentary at the HUMAN film festival Oslo 2020. After completing an M.A. at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute in 2012 she started reporting about human rights and social issues including the drug industry in the favela’s of Rio, animal trafficking in the Amazon jungle and forensic investigations into disappearances on the US-Mexico border. Other credits include Sound of Vision (PBS POV, 2013, Emmy nominated), Huesos que Hablan (Discovery Channel, 2014, Emmy nominated), Unfinished Revolution (HUMAN, 2019). Loretta also holds an M.A. in conflict studies and Human Rights from the University of Utrecht. Her work is characterised by a blend between visual journalism and anthropological observation.
