Mirjam Matiisen

director

The teachers at the nursery immediately spotted that Mirjam was an especially curious child and loved to ask questions about everything. This curiosity didn’t disappear so on leaving school Mirjam decided that studying to be a journalist would satisfy her passion for investigating the different sides of life. After graduating from the university she became a broadcast journalist and a television editor.

While working in TV Mirjam started her MA in Documentary Studies at the Baltic Film and Media School. Her first documentary ‘Telegrams from Buryatia’ was filmed in Siberia in Russia while working for a year as a volunteer. ‘Ambassador of Setomaa’ was her graduation film. Today Mirjam has realised that documentary making is both her passion and forte.
