Daniela Meressa Rusnoková's work focuses on social themes, minorities, cultures, autobiography, and subjective narratives in documentaries. She holds a master’s and doctoral degree in documentary filmmaking from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, with her film About Sonja and Her Family (2006) winning multiple awards. She directed TV documentaries on disadvantaged clients and deinstitutionalization in Slovakia, including Simple Happiness (2014) and Not Even in Dreams (2016), presented at the EU Parliament on Inclusion. In 2015, she co-wrote a documentary series on Slovakia’s first female botanist, The First One – Izabela Textorisová. Also a photographer, her images of Romani villages illustrate Phurikane giľa by ethnomusicologist Jana Belišová.
