After studies of fiction film directing in London and Cape Town, Mladen Kovačević has wholeheartedly dedicated himself to documentaries in past several years. His poetic is rooted in simplicity of realism; his films explore various styles with idiosyncratic dramatic structures and the nonconventional approach to naturalistic aesthetic. They have been screened at Visions du Réel, IDFA, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, FIDMarseille, and been awarded and distributed internationally. His most recent film, MERRY CHRISTMAS, YIWU, premiered at IFF Rotterdam, while he is working on BEGINNINGS, an experimental diary film, and KORYO, which will be shot in North Korea.
