Aljona Surzhikova was born on January 6, 1982 in Tallinn. She studied in the United States in the field of television science (BA) and in St. Petersburg in the film studio specialty (MA) at the St. Petersburg State Film and Television University. Surzhikova has been a director of the ETV Youth Program (2003-2004), project manager and director of the Smile TV video production company (2004-2006), has made Russian women documentaries (2006-2007) as second director in St Petersburg on Petersburg Channel 5 (2006-2007), Russian "Autumn Ball" Spokeswoman, casting organizer and more. She has also received recognition from her documentaries about socially sensitive issues outside Estonia. Her films have been successful at festivals and have been featured in cinema and television. In 2013, she was awarded the Young Cinematographer Award for the Cultural Endowment for the Audiovisual Art of Estonia. In 2018 she was one of six women to direct a short clip for the film ROOTS. In 2019 she premiered her short film Waiting for a Miracle.
