Graduated from FAMU (Film & TV Faculty of the Academy of Arts, Czechoslovakia) in 1971 and then worked as producer and director on documentaries, features and television programmes both in former Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) and in Great Britain. In 1976, he was granted political asylum in Britain and subsequently has worked as a freelance producer/director on film and television documentaries for Granada TV, Channel 4, the U.N., and as a Course Director at the London International Film School until 2001. He has made over forty films, television and video programmes.
