Born as Hana Tomešová in Czechoslovakia. She worked as a props manager at a regional theater, a photographer, a white chimney-sweeper in a coal mine, and a stage actress. She then became a lab technician in the Barrandov film studios and a theater lighting technician. Later, she became an assistant film editor at the Czechoslovak TV Studio and a student of film editing at Prague’s FAMU. After three years, she left the studio for USA where she worked her way up from being a press operator, a nurse, to selling hamburgers at McDonalds (just for one day), acting in a French-American theater, to finally become a film editor.
