Jaroslava Panáková received her PhD in Social Anthropology at St.Petersburg State University
in Russia and MA in documentary cinema at FAMU Prague, Czech Republic. Since 2001 she
has been studying indigenous peoples of Polar Russia. She combines the fieldwork with the
filmic approach. Author’s debut The seagull flying against the wind (2005) was screened at the
IFF in Jihlava and at the festival One world. Her graduation film Being tourist at home (2008)
participated in 2009 at the East Silver market in Jihlava and in 2010, won the first Prize at the
TOCOCU festival in Lisboa. In 2013, she combined audiovisual media and social anthropology
yet in another medium – exhibition "Different colours of white".
