When graduating law school in 2011, Pieter-Jan Van Damme (° 24/10/1986) had been involved with documentary film festivals for more than 3 years (programming at One World Film Festivaland production assistant at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam). His studies focused on human rights law and migration law. He felt he wanted to do something creatively with the education. By then he had been submerged in the world of documentary film and already used a camera for several years. Thus he rolled into film and became very passionate about it. Although he did not study film, his legal background put things in perspective and the topic of migration had always intrigued him. This is Pieter-Jan’s directing debut.
