Friedemann Hottenbacher was born in Japan where he also spend most of his childhood. In 1989 he moved to Berlin for his studies of Social Science, Japanese Studies and Religious Studies. During this time he began to work for the German bureau of Tokyo Broadcasting System as a producer und director before becoming a freelance filmmaker. He has written and directed many award-winning documentaries for German and international broadcasters including ZDF, ARD, NHK, arte and 3sat. Since 2009 he is also engaged in developing and producing international feature documentaries for inselfilm produktion. 2020 he joined inselfilm as as producer and CEO.
