A native of Romania, Mona Nicoara has been a human rights activist since the 1989 Revolution that overthrew the Ceausescu regime, working with groups in Central and Eastern Europe and the US. She started working in film as an Associate Producer for Edet Belzberg’s Academy Award-nominated Children Underground (2001, Special Jury Prize, Sundance Film Festival, 2001 Best Documentary Film Award from the IDA, 2001 Academy Award nomination). Mona Nicoară also works in Romania and in Central and Eastern Europe more generally to assist local groups to develop domestic and international advocacy skills and strategies.
