In 1997 she graduated in Media and Society from the London South Bank University. She has over 25 years of experience working in the media sector. She worked at BBC World Service Trust/Media Action, and since June 2011 has been with the Programme Department of Al Jazeera Balkans as a Programme Producer for Acquisitions and Co-Productions. From 2018, she has also been a Programmer for the AJB DOC Film Festival. Since August 2024, Lejla has been working as a Senior Producer, Documentaries Acquisitions, at Al Jazeera English.
