Director Jakub Šmíd received a degree in directing from the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) as well as a drama degree from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts Brno (JAMU). His short film Non-swimmers (Neplavci) won the Czech Lion – Magnesia Award for Best Student Film in 2011. His graduation film Amanitas was nominated for the same award in 2015. Non-swimmers was screened at a number of international film festivals including London BFI and the French l’Académie des César named it one of the seven best short films of 2011. His next film Short Cut (Na krátko) had its international premiere as a feature in the main competition of the biggest film festival for children and adolescents Cinekid Festival Amsterdam.
