Yulia Vishnevets is a journalist, documentary filmmaker, and director of non-fiction films. She has worked as a reporter for various media outlets. Since 2019, she has been a staff documentary filmmaker for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Current Time TV channel in Russia. Her debut documentary feature, Hey! Teachers!, received the special jury prize at the Krakow Film Festival. It was also the first runner-up at the HKIDF in Hong Kong and featured in the Best of Fests program at the IDFA Festival.
In September 2022, she was detained while attempting to film an anti-military demonstration in Dagestan. She spent five days in prison in a North Caucasian village and had to leave Russia due to the risk of criminal prosecution. She currently resides in Berlin.
